Where and When We Meet

Our monthly meeting will be in person as usual at the Capitol Manor Community Center. We'll watch a Zoom presentation by Bill Kemp on Pointed Pen Uncial.

Supply list from Bill Kemp:

Pen Holder: I will be using an oblique pen holder, but with this being a very vertical script, a straight pen hold could be used. See which will work best for you.

Nibs: I like to use Nikko G for this script but if you are an experienced pointed pen individual, have a nib that will provide a nice crisp thin line for an up stroke then please use it. Suggestions would be a Gillott 22, Gillott 1064; not a very flexible nib but one you can provide a nice shade and thin line.

Paper: I have supplied guide sheets in the back of the workbook. I have used this in previous workshops, I have copied those guide sheets on to the blank Rhodia paper. In fact, that is the paper I used to make the workbook. I knew that the paper would provide the crisp lines that I wanted to achieve. Using the Rhodia paper will allow me to use most inks and achieve the nice thin, crisp line I am desiring. For practice, using the Canson, Graph and Layout, 8.5x11 inches, 8 squares per inch is suggested. With this graph paper you can make your guidelines very easily.

Inks: Using McCaffery Ink (anyone except the glossy ink), Old World Ink are my two suggestions. I like using Tim Norton walnut ink for practice. Again, we want to achieve a nice thin, crisp line with your nib. Test your ink, nib and paper to see which will work the best for you.
