Carved Letters
Instructors: Bill Blumberg & Joel Montgomery
Class Limit: 12
They will do a session on the old craft of incised (carved) letters and designs in wood and stone. The session will cover the history of the tools used, sharpening, demonstrations and then a small project.Neuland Nuance

Materials Fee: $3.
After a short tuition of a basic Neuland hand, the class will adjust the alphabet to exhibit personal nuances that can enhance the meaning of the words one chooses to write. The class will also cut these letters from paper to create material for collage or to provide a different look for your set of words.
Supplies: Speedball C-2 and C-0 nibs and holder (optional bigger pens are good, like Coit or Automatic or Parallel); favorite ink (or paint); craft knife and blades; small cutting surface; bits of favorite papers; bits of decorated papers; glue stick; pencil.Fractured Letters

Skill Level: All Levels
Students will explore the technique of fracturing letters to create a unique calligraphic design using pencils (colored or graphite).
Supplies: A pencil and eraser; soft graphite pencils OR ebony pencil OR Colored pencils (Prismacolor or similar); drawing paper (any surface); drawing board, clip board or drawing pad (a surface to draw on); 12" ruler/straight edge. Optional: reference images (florals, geometric shapes, fish, etc.) and painter's tape.Beginning Pointed Brush

A Woven Accordion Fold Book with a Flat Piano Hinge
Instructor: Patty Grass
Materials Fee: $3.
Three accordion folded strips of paper are woven together to form the “text block.” The cover paper is glued to boards and extends beyond the covers to form the flat piano hinge spine through which the covered mat board pin is woven.
Supplies: Students should bring: a cutting mat, a knife (utility knife or snap-off blade knife or exacto kife), scissors, 12"-18" metal ruler, a pencil, a bone folder, and scraap paper for gluing on.Sketchbooks: Adding Imagery with your text.
Instructor: Ken O'Connell
Ken O'Connell, Professor Emeritus from the University of Oregon, has been teaching people to use their sketchbooks in workshops from Canada to Oregon to Tennessee and to Italy every other year. Bring your sketchbook and learn his many techniques to bring simple drawing and colored sketching into your work. Ken will have his latest book SPIRIT of the Rough Sketch II to share.Ken is also President of Imagination International, Inc. which is the importer of COPIC Markers and pens and he will show you the latest colors and pens to use in your work.

Supplies: Bring your sketchbook, and a handful of marking and coloring tools with you (including three colored pencils, black ink pen in two sizes, brown ink pen and anything else portable to color with) to join in this very hands-on workshop.
