WORKSHOP (KINDA) - Serendipity Day
9:30 AM - 3:00 PM
Tuition: To Be Announced
Capital Manor
Salem, Oregon
In the art room located in the main building basement at the west end entrance.  Finally, here it is Serendipity Day – leaderless group with huge potential!
What happens at this event? Well, we all come together to share the “how to” of projects, bringing samples to show as well as materials to make these projects and printed instructions for everyone if possible.  Figure on fifteen to attend. If you don’t have an activity to share, bring your tools and learn from others. A pad and pen for taking notes might be useful as well as a camera.
So, let’s get together to share calligraphic ideas and work on projects. Have questions about calligraphy?  Let’s discuss them.
What to bring: nib holder and nibs, ink, paper, ruler, pencil, Micron Pigma pen, X-Acto knife, cutting mat, bone folder, scissors, glue stick, note pad, etc.  Also, a sack lunch!

What Do I Do With Watercolor Pencils? with Pat Averill
Most of us gather art supplies like candy and then don’t really know how to begin using them. This is your chance to learn easy ways to use water-soluble colored pencils.
Supply list: small pieces of watercolor paper to try out the techniques. Notebook size or smaller is fine for the paper (you will want to keep it for reference), and hot press is preferable, but any kind is fine for the demo. Also bring watercolor pencils, a pencil sharpener, a water tub (cottage cheese container is good), rag and kitchen sponge, 1-2 flat watercolor brushes about 1/2" wide, a couple pieces of saran wrap, a birthday candle, tape, a small piece of rough sandpaper (if you have it) and a small drawing board or support.

WORKSHOP - Envelope Art with Carol Dubosch
9:00 AM - 4:00 PM
Tuition: To Be Announced
Capital Manor
Salem, Oregon
Join us for the fun as Carol DuBosch presents the many possibilities for using your art to make unique envelopes for your everyday mail! We all love to see our name “in lights”, and creatively addressing envelopes to friends and family is a great way to let them shine and know they are special. Carol will discuss a multitude of simple techniques to make your mail a piece of art and share her large collection of decorated envelopes. In addition, she will bring a library of resources for Envelope Art ideas, also letting you peek at her many boxes of vintage postage stamps (that are still usable). Vintage postage can be an excellent design element for envelopes as well as quick visual inspiration for layout ideas. She will demonstrate how to make several simple envelopes and special cards with an envelope theme. Carol will teach an easy script, written with a simple pen that she’ll help you make. The workshop will include instruction and hands‐on experience with two easy marbling techniques that are perfect for envelopes.

Here is an opportunity to sharpen your skills to be ready for writing names at the different fairs the guild is invited to attend. It is much appreciated when we volunteer. Also, it is an excellent way to lighten up and simply enjoy writing. Children love having their names done and even if the effort doesn't always look good in our eyes they like it!
